A FOUNDATION, A CORPORATION, AN ASSOCIATION...

Legal Structures

THE EVOLUTION OF L'AUBIER DERIVES FROM THE INITIATIVE OF THOSE WHO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT, BUT IT IS ONLY THE RECOGNITION AND SUPPORT OF A GROWING CIRCLE OF PARTNERS THAT HAS ALLOWED US TO GIVE OUR INITIATIVE CONCRETE EXPRESSION.

L'AUBIER Ltd >
Founded in 1980, the company provides the envelope of finances and real estate – including farmland and farm buildings – for L'AUBIER’s various activities: restaurant, hotel, shop, cafe-hotel, and administration buildings. Each business is conducted in a spirit of independent and autonomous partnership with the other activities, encouraged by regular meetings based on full transparency and management accountability. Its board consists of Christoph Cordes, Marc Desaules, Anita Grandjean and Katrin Hofmann Hurter. Over 1,300 people are shareholders, participants, or indirect bond holders. One third of them come from the canton of Neuchatel, another third from Swiss Romande and the rest of Switzerland or elsewhere. The majority vote at the general meeting has been entrusted to a small internal association, whose ‘public benefit’ status ensures the ethical stance of the company.

L'AUBIER Partenaires >
An association that exists to support and encourage the ideal aspect of L'AUBIER’s activities. Its committee comprises Christoph Cordes, Marc Desaules, Anita Grandjean and Ueli Hurter. It serves its purpose in two main ways: by granting a share of preferential loans by issuing debenture bonds secured against the buildings of L'AUBIER. As such, it also holds stakes in L'AUBIER initiatives partners. It also assures the management and coordination of the activities as a whole.

L'AUBIER Farm (Sole Proprietorship)
The first activity at L'AUBIER begun in Montezillon in 1979, it became autonomous of L'AUBIER Ltd independently incorporated in 2001 in order to meet the requirements for direct subsidy payments, which have to be paid to a farmer. For this reason, the business of the farm and the dairy – but not the land or the farm buildings – were sold to the farmer with their inventory. Its legal form is currently that of a self-employed farmer, Ueli Hurter, with his own staff. Practically, it is managed like the other activities at L'AUBIER, with regular meetings based on transparent management and accountability. Its assets are financed by loans, largely from L'AUBIER Partenaires.

L'AUBIER Fondation >
Founded in 1984, our foundation aims to promote research in all areas of life and to encourage the realisation of ideals based on anthroposophy. Its activity has just begun and extends primarily to the support of applied research and training. Its Board of Trustees comprises Marc Desaules, Anita Grandjean, Michele Grandjean Cordes, Katrin Hofmann Hurter and Ueli Hurter. In 2004, it was given public benefit status and became fully tax exempt. This means that gifts and bequests to the foundation can be deducted from income net of tax in Switzerland subject to prevailing cantonal legislation.
