«Les Murmures» Eco-quarter

A small eco-quarter: ‘Les Murmures’ (Whispers) provides a setting for housing built in accordance with L'AUBIER’s core values. It is intended for both families and individuals of all ages. People live there because they feel a connection to L'AUBIER, because they share its values: its philosophical approach, its consistent commitment to bio-dynamic farming, ecology and sustainable development, and its recognition of the spiritual dimension of the human being. ‘Les Murmures’ is conceived as a place in which all ages can live near to one another, where therapies can be offered, and young people can grow up in a healthy environment. With its walls and gardens, it offers everyone a place to stroll, to meet, to be… In short, community life.

Montezillon: Montezillon is a small hamlet where people used to spend the summer recuperating. 750m above sea level, facing the lake of Neuchatel and the Alps and benefiting from a distant coastal climate ‘Les Murmures’ is located on the hillside. It is centred on an old farm building, protected by the Canton of Neuchâtel, that has been rebuilt and transformed to provide workshops, therapy suites, offices and perhaps a doctor. Around this centre, four new buildings were built, carefully placed to enjoy the stunning views. They house 21 apartments of two to five rooms with balcony or walk-in access to the outside. The proximity of L'AUBIER, with its bio-dynamic farm, shop, restaurant, hotel and seminar rooms, completes this endeavour to provide a sustainable human future.

Construction: The south-facing apartments are modern, spacious and bright, and have been designed and equipped to be self-contained. The use of high quality materials (wood from the region, natural lime plaster, ‘green’ paint and varnish), recovery of rainwater for irrigation and toilets, the concept of combining heating requirements with Minergy© solar, wood, and electricity produced on site – these are just some aspects of our principle of applied ecology. The architecture, colours and moods of ‘Les Murmures’ are an expression of L'AUBIER’s style. Most apartments are walk-in or lift accessible; all are designed to meet the needs of potential restricted mobility and are therefore particularly suitable for senior citizens and people and families with such needs.

‘A la carte’ services: ‘Les Murmures’ potentially combine the need for individual housing with the security of knowing that, if needed, there are services available that obviate the need to go into a home for as long as possible. Everyone wants to live freely and independently But illnesses occur, accidents happen, fatigue can set in. For such eventualities, L'AUBIER can provide accommodation with the following paid for ‘a la carte’ services: meals once or twice a day, housekeeping, laundry service, concierge, errands and shopping, help with administration, and assistance with the organisation of home care – all based on the immediate possibilities of the next-door shop, restaurant and hotel. Therefore, if your mental health allows, you can choose to stay grow old with dignity at L'AUBIER until the end of this earthly journey.

In addition: Residents meet monthly in an informal committee. This is where life’s daily round is organised – self-help, taxis to the city, theatre or concert outings, barbecues, excursions, visits to the hairdresser, etc. This is also where agreements are made concerning any outstanding issues. A shared garden area brings and a chance to chat – or do some weeding! Of course, keeping things in good shape entails a commitment on the part of the residents. But raised areas and benches in peaceful corners encourage everyone to be a gardener to some degree; and to have the fun of creating an environment all can enjoy.

Finances: Neither owned nor tenanted, the apartments are not for sale and are leased to the partners of L'AUBIER Ltd for 200.- to 250.- per m² per year. Residents first become shareholders in L'AUBIER at a rate of 1000.- per square metre of floor space. Two third of that sum is given to L'AUBIER, by which one receives a right of residence for life, the right to the services described below, some gratis, some paid, and many benefits on the site. For families, the reservation is like it is for any other appartment in the region, without services. As a shareholder of L'AUBIER, every person becomes part of the leadership and activities of the place.

D'une part, il y a le petit écoquartier inter-générationnel, pour familles et seniors, d'autre part des chalets et maisons individuelles, ou encore plusieurs chambres meublées en collocation pour les personnes en formation et nos collaborateurs. Par ailleurs, il y a plusieurs espaces de thérapie dans le bâtiment central des Murmures.
